Restoring frontline roads in the Kharkiv region

War is felt everywhere in the Kharkiv region. Civilian vehicles on the roads are a rare sight. The main traffic here consists of military pickups, emergency and demining service vehicles, trucks carrying ammunition, and an endless stream of ambulances and evacuation transports with the wounded.
The frontline is just a few kilometers away. Local roads are under constant enemy fire. Survival often depends on driving at maximum speed — which is nearly impossible on battered, cratered roads.
Autostrada road crews are restoring evacuation corridors in the Lyman, Vovchansk, Kupyansk, and now the most critical Pokrovske sectors. This is vital work that directly impacts the safety of civilians and enables our defenders to maneuver and hold the lines. In total, our team is working on over 400 kilometers of roads across the Kharkiv region.
Fully aware of how dire the situation is, our road workers are operating in an intensified mode. The first dump trucks loaded with asphalt leave the production base at 4 a.m., and the last ones return around midnight. This is the same team that rebuilt the so-called “roads of life” in Izyum and Balakliya right after these cities were liberated in 2022. For the fourth year in a row, their work has come with constant danger from enemy drones, guided bombs (KABs), mines, and unexploded ordnance still found along the routes.
On June 3, during a night drone attack on the workers’ town, one of our brave team members, loader operator Oleksandr Kapeliushnyi, was killed.
Despite this tragic loss, the entire Autostrada road crew continues to work at full strength, without stopping for a single day — risking their lives so that people can escape the shelling.
We are immensely grateful to each of you for your courage and dedication. You are our pride and our strength!
