The Mykolaiv water pipeline has been officially launched

For the first time in three years, the residents of Mykolaiv are receiving high-quality drinking water through a centralized system.
Over the course of a month, Autostrada specialists conducted comprehensive hydraulic tests, which also included flushing the pipeline. Each day, up to 10,000 m³ of water was pumped through the system. The facility’s operator carried out daily laboratory water quality monitoring at every stage — from intake at the Southern Bug River to its transportation through the pipeline and delivery to Mykolaiv’s water treatment facilities.
Since October 1, the pipeline has been connected to a permanent power supply from Mykolaivoblenergo. The facility operator has signed agreements for electricity distribution and supply, marking the beginning of stable system operation to meet the needs of Mykolaivvodokanal.
The pipeline’s pumping stations (VNS-1, 2, 3) are fully automated and integrated into a single intelligent control system. Management is carried out from a centralized control room using modern SCADA automation and data transmission technologies. This approach minimizes the need for manual intervention, enhances reliability and operational efficiency, and ensures cybersecurity — control is possible only from the operator’s room via a closed local network.
Autostrada engineers conducted comprehensive training for the facility’s personnel to ensure effective operation of the new water system. Staff were trained in system startup procedures from both the permanent grid and diesel generators, practiced manual and automatic operation modes, and received detailed instructions on managing the pumping stations. This ensures confident and efficient response in any situation and guarantees uninterrupted water supply.
By the end of the year, solar power plants will be installed at the first pumping station. They will reduce annual electricity consumption by approximately 20%, helping to lower water supply costs and, consequently, tariffs for Mykolaiv residents.
The Mykolaiv water pipeline is a landmark project with no analogues in modern Ukraine. Most similar systems were built back in the 1970s during the Soviet era and are now outdated and in need of replacement.
The Autostrada team completed construction in just five months instead of the planned 2.5 years — working continuously in a 24/7 mode. This achievement restored to Mykolaiv residents something invaluable — stable access to drinking water, which had been unavailable since April 2022.
Meanwhile, construction continues on a new filtration complex — the first European-standard water treatment facility in Ukraine. This multi-stage system will provide Mykolaiv with clean, safe drinking water that meets all sanitary standards. The first stage of construction is planned for completion by the end of this year, and the second stage in the first quarter of 2026.
Our sincere thanks to the Autostrada team for their professionalism, dedication, and tireless 24/7 work!
