Construction of the Temporary Bridge Between Ukraine and Moldova: Autostrada Nears Completion of In-River Works on the Dniester

The construction of the temporary bridge across the Dniester between Ukraine and Moldova is entering a new stage. The Autostrada team is completing works in the Moldovan section of the riverbed and is now advancing construction onto the riverbank.
The temporary bridge is being constructed towards the future Yampil–Cosăuți international border crossing point. To open the bridge to traffic by the end of the year, construction is proceeding around the clock.
The bridge will have a total length of 276 metres. To date, 180 metres of the structure have been completed, with 15 of the 24 steel supports installed. Each support consists of eight tubular elements and three icebreakers designed to protect the structure against ice loads.
The bridge deck will be positioned approximately 11 metres above the water level of the Dniester. The superstructure consists of steel beams and reinforced concrete deck slabs. The slab surface features special grooving to improve tyre grip and enhance traffic safety.
At the same time, work is progressing actively on the bridge approaches. On the Ukrainian side, we are completing approximately 3 km of new approach road. The next stage will involve constructing the connection on the Moldovan bank and linking the temporary bridge to Moldova’s existing road network.
Once the temporary crossing is opened, Vinnytsia Region will gain a direct transport connection with the Moldovan city of Soroca. This will support stable and growing passenger traffic across the Ukrainian–Moldovan border, which this year has recorded the highest growth rate in the number of border crossings. In particular, between June and August 2026, approximately 2.25 million border crossings were recorded between Ukraine and Moldova — 12.9% more than during the same period in 2025. Under martial law, the new route will also provide an additional corridor for reliable cross-border and international logistics.
At the same time, the temporary bridge will create the necessary conditions for resuming construction of the permanent international bridge across the Dniester, with a total length of 1,309 metres. Autostrada launched this major infrastructure project in 2021, but construction was suspended following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
