Reconstruction of Kharkivske Highway in Kyiv: works are underway along the entire length of the project — from Darnytska Square to Kharkivska Square

Autostrada is carrying out a major overhaul of Kharkivske Highway, one of the key transport arteries on the left bank of Kyiv. Every day, thousands of vehicles travel along this road, which connects densely populated areas of the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts with the city’s main transport hubs and ensures intensive urban mobility.

The works involve a full reconstruction of the road structure. The worn pavement is being removed, the base is being reinforced, and a new multilayer asphalt concrete structure is being installed, designed to withstand significantly higher traffic loads and provide a longer service life. Such an approach is necessary because years of heavy traffic have severely worn down the road infrastructure of Kharkivske Highway. In some sections, deep ruts, cracks, and subsidence had formed, indicating a serious loss of the pavement’s structural strength.

With the onset of favorable weather conditions, the full scope of road works has resumed, including:

  • milling of the existing asphalt pavement;

  • installation of geotextile;

  • construction of a base layer using crushed stone-sand mixture (CSS 0–70 mm);

  • installation of stormwater drainage systems — collectors and pipelines with diameters of 300, 400, and 500 mm;

  • asphalt paving on ramps and access roads;

  • construction of foundations for traffic signal infrastructure;

  • construction of new sidewalks and bike lanes;

  • arrangement of public transport stops and parking areas.

Work progress: on the section from Yurii Lytvynskyi Street to Bratslavska Street (odd-numbered side), the lower layers of asphalt concrete have already been installed. The final leveling layer will be laid during the final stage of the project.

A new stormwater drainage system with monolithic stormwater inlets has also been constructed, and more than 100 lighting poles with LED fixtures and an automated control system have been installed.

Another important component of the project is the reconstruction of underground pedestrian infrastructure, including ramps, shelters, and elevators for people with limited mobility. Autostrada bridge crews are currently completing the reconstruction of five underground crossings, where plastering and finishing works have already begun.

The main scope of works on Kharkivske Highway is scheduled to be completed by the end of spring.
