Traffic has been opened on the Northern Bypass of Rivne.

The 10-kilometre project consists of two sections: a newly constructed 6-km roadway leading to the village of Khotyn and a reconstructed 4-km segment connecting Khotyn with Rivneazot, one of Ukraine’s largest chemical enterprises.

The bypass is a major transport infrastructure facility designed to divert transit traffic away from Rivne, particularly vehicles travelling along the international M-06 highway from Zhytomyr and Kyiv towards Lutsk and the Yahodyn–Dorohusk and Ustyluh–Zosin border crossings on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Autostrada resumed construction in August 2025 after winning the tender to complete the project, which had faced the risk of becoming a long-term unfinished development. Construction had originally started in 2019 under a different contractor but was suspended following the outbreak of the full-scale war.

Completion of the bypass has delivered a critical transport link for the region while improving living conditions for local communities.

More than 200 specialists and 150 units of equipment were deployed on site. Autostrada maintained an accelerated construction schedule through its own production facilities and modern fleet of machinery, enabling the company to execute the project independently without subcontractors. Quality control of both materials and construction works was ensured at every stage through the company’s in-house laboratory complex.

The pavement structure was built in accordance with modern standards for high-traffic roads. Following earthworks, a base layer of sand and crushed stone mixtures was installed, topped with three asphalt layers: a coarse-grained asphalt base course, a fine-grained binder course, and a stone mastic asphalt wearing course designed to withstand heavy freight traffic.

Geosynthetic mats were used to stabilise the subgrade, while the entire drainage system was reconstructed.

As part of the project, Autostrada’s bridge construction teams rehabilitated key structures, including an overpass and a railway bridge. Works included slope concreting, replacement of expansion joints, and construction of gabion retaining walls.

Road safety has been enhanced through the construction of two new roundabouts connecting traffic flows towards Rivne and Sarny, as well as local access roads to Rohachiv, Horodok and Rivneazot.

The project also included the installation of 12.3 km of safety barriers, a new lighting system, and public transport stops.

The opening of the bypass will redirect transit traffic away from the city, reducing wear on urban roads and lowering noise levels in residential areas.
